Contentment

Chap 7


Toph practically ran all the way towards the lagoon, all she had to focus on was the heavy pounding that resonating from the waterfalls. The smell of cooking food welcomed her and just as Sokka had said Katara was in the middle of the lake practicing her water bending. Katara had water bended the area of solid ground beneath her, allowing her to practice holding the water back and give her a firmer footing.

A fire was blaring at the shore of the lake; next to the flames were a pair of carps. The scent of the fish made Toph’s mouth water; not eating a whole day could do that to people.

“I was worried you hadn’t eaten yet,” Toph said in a tone only audible to herself as she bit into a piece of fish. “But I should have known my Sugar queen is able to take care of herself.”

The Blind Bandit sat down crossed legged on the sandy shore and as she ate, she intently watched each of Katara’s movements. Compared to earth bending water bending was a completely different type of…art. Where earth bending was strong, water bending had its unique type of strength. While earth bending was defined into distinct stances, water bending flowed in endless circles of more flexible postures.

“Toph, how long have you’ve been there?” Katara asked surprised. “You should have told me you were here.”

“I like watching you water bend, Katara.” Toph looked away and whispered. “It’s beautiful…”

Katara’s face practically glowed from the simple compliment her beloved had said. “Do you want to join me?”

Toph nodded shyly and stood at the edge of the lake.

Katara smiled and water bended a pathway from the shore directly to where she was standing. She made sure to keep the path open until Toph’s arms were encircled around her waist.

“Ready?”

“Is the water deep here?” Toph noticed how the ground had caved in as she walked to the middle. “You know I can’t see in the water.”

The water bender smiled and kissed the younger girl on the forehead, “How about you level the field?”

Toph let go of Katara and quickly pulled up the ground beneath them. The movement caused Katara to waver, losing the control on the water and letting it once again surround the couple. After Toph’s adjustment to the lagoon, the water still went right up to her chin, the water stole her sight.

And once again helplessness filled her heart, making her despise her own weakness. “Honestly I’m not enjoying this, Katara.”

“Are you not?” Katara asked playfully as she reached out and caressed the Blind Bandit’s pale cheek, soon replacing her hand with gossamer kisses.

Katara’s hands traveled from Toph’s broad shoulders, down her arms till they reached the earth bender’s hips. Then she kissed her lover till her lips were centimetres from Toph’s ear.

“Toph, I really love you,” Katara said in a low voice. “I Love You.”

“If you love me you’ll lead us back to the shore,” Toph smirked and kissed Katara’s frowning lips. “I want you Katara; but definitely not in a lake, if we are doing anything we’ll be doing it on solid ground.”

“Mmmmmm, but Toph I feel more at home in the water,” Katara’s voice was husky as she playfully nipped at Toph’s neck. “I’ve waited so long.”

“Maybe when we are on solid ground, where I can actually see you”, Toph smiled and coaxed her lover even closer to her with kisses. “And I absolutely will have you.”

Katara leered then suddenly swooped Toph up in bridal style and spun around in a circle, honestly if the earth bender wasn’t so afraid of falling into the abyss of the lake she would have been amused and since she was in the arms of someone she trusted more then anyone or anything in the world, she was laughing to her hearts content.

This time the girls walked backed to camp hand in hand, the sunrise as their background. The sun created dazzling colours of vibrant reds and yellows, the weather seemed not as harsh and their minds not as clouded. Their bodies were tired but their hearts were now fully content.
